With an aim to keep a tight noose on the commission agents at the department, Jal Sansthan officials have recently taken a decision to submit draft in the favour of department instead of submitting cash by those consumers, who are seeking new water connection for domestic or commercial connections. It is not wrong to quote that water problem exists in many slums and those villagers who are living in the remote parts of the State are worst affected as they are forced to traverse several kilometres to quench their thirst.
Since the duration of the potable water supply ranges between one to two hours each in morning and evening, the residents normally keep their bucket full for emergency. Since there is a huge gap between breakdown and repair of hand pumps, resident so often take another turn by applying for the water connections.
Department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that around 40 per cent BPl families and 20 per cent of poor are willing to take new house connection for water supply but got a setback due to the commission agents.
"It would be now mandatory to submit draft in the favour of the department instead submitting cash for seeking new potable water connection," he said, adding that paying potable water bills in time helps department for providing good services.
