Water scarcity far from over for Pauri

Despite crores being spent for Nanghat gravity drinking water scheme, the water scarcity is far from being over for the people of Pauri. They have been facing the  crisis in many parts of the town for the past seven days. They say that the lesser volume of water being supplied from the Nanghat Project  is spawning the crisis.

Notably, supply of water from Nanghat drinking water scheme for Pauri  started in 2012. It was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on  November 12 2012. The people  who are  bearing the brunt of things say  that the Nanghat Project has failed to serve its purpose because of severe anomalies existing in the supply system.

The officials of Jal Nigam Construction Division Pauri claimed that leakage of the pipelines, faulty electric line and some snags that have developed  in the Nanghat transformer have resulted  in the dwindle of the  supply.

Assistant engineer  Jal Nigam, Mamta Tewari, who is looking after the Nanghat gravity drinking water scheme, told The Pioneer that the project has been facing pumping  problem. “For the past few days, supply of  electricity  has  remained erratic. Compounding things,  the transformer is not working. Some snags have  developed.   We wrote to the electricity wing of Jal Nigam for the maintenance of electricity line on February 26. We hope  things would be corrected soon,” she said.  She further said that the discharge of gravity has come down, aggravating the problem.  She admitted that as much as 40 lPM water is leaking   at three or four places of the pipe lines and only 12lPM  water is being supplied.
