Water level surges in Gaula river after heavy rainfall

Published on:
Following consistent rainfall in the Kumaon region, the rise in level of water in the Gaula river here has swept away a considerable area of agricultural land in Bindukhatta. No one from the administration has visited the area to view the damage so far, complain the locals. In Rawatnagar I and II areas, the strong current and rising level of water in the river swept away a playground and the agricultural land of about a dozen farmers. When this correspondent reached the site, the affected people said that the agricultural land was being lost to the river for about one week now but no public representative has arrived here. Villager Rakesh Kumar said that he had about two bighas of farmland which was his means of livelihood but the land was swept away by the Gaula river. Ex serviceman Gopal Singh Rawat said that during the elections various candidates had promised measures for flood protection. The people were misguided for securing votes and now they are being ignored, he added.
The villagers state that the politicians had made flood protection along the
Gaula a poll issue during the Vidhan Sabha election. Now when the villagers are losing land to the river, none of the politicians or public representatives is coming here to check the situation.
