Water level in various rivers of the districts like Haridwar, Pauri and Dehradun is likely to increase as Uttarakhand Meteorological centre has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Uttarakhand, particularly for Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts, for two days from August 11.

This aside, the Met officials have issued an advisory for the administrative officers to be alert and take measures to evacuate those  living in the low- lying areas  to safer places. With the possibility of landslides in the higher reaches being high, the people should avoid going to the landslide- prone areas and the pilgrims should take extra precaution, said director of Meteorological centre Birkam Singh on Tuesday.

He said that heavy rainfall is likely to lash isolated places, especially in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Chamoli, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand, on August 9 and August 10.

Meanwhile, monsoon remaining normal in Uttarakhand during past 24 hours, several places recorded moderate to rather heavy rainfall. By 8.30 am on Tuesday, 60 mm rainfall was reported in Mussoorie, 50 mm each in Rudraprayag and Banbasa, 40 mm each in Kapkot and Jakholi and 30 mm each in Dehradun-3, Chaukhutia-3, Ukhimath-3, Jollygrant, Karnaprayag and Champawat.

Heavy rainfall lashed Dehradun in the morning on Tuesday after which the sun came out with the clouds dispersing. While the students heading for their schools were inconvenienced several roads were water- logged with people being forced to wade through the accumulated water to reach destinations. As many as 16 roads in the mountainous parts of the Dehradun are still blocked for traffic. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Wednesday is generally cloudy sky and few spells of rain/thunder showers at isolated places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 degree Celsius and 24 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Wednesday.
