Waste management: DVWM, MCD slug it out

Published on:

The bitter war of words continues between the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and the company Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) regarding the work progress of the solid waste management project.

Mukhaya Nagar Adhikari at MCD, Ashok Kumar revealed that MCD is capable of managing the sanitation arrangement of the city on its own and no external assistance is required.  Earlier also when there was no such agreement done with any company, MCD was solely handling the complete sanitation responsibility of the State capital and is still capable to manage it alone, he stressed.

MCD has already made up its mind to restart the sanitation work solely in town with full flow and has already asked the officials of  the Regional Transport Department (RTO) to look into the mending work of all the out of order vehicles of MCD, maintained Kumar.  He also stated that MCD would try to resolve all the sanitation related woes of the town soon.

When asked about the company’s decision of quitting the sanitation work of the city, Kumar replied that neither any company representative have come yet to meet him  and nor any notice has been received. Blaming the MCD officials for not following any of the clauses mentioned in the MoU of the company and MCD, Siddharth Jain, CEO of DVWM said that after around two and a half years of the agreement also MCD has not provided the compost land required for garbage disposal.

The company on consistent request of the MCD’s officials started the door to door collection of garbage work, which was being done off the agreement.  But due to the lack of coordination of the MCD’s officials and their arrogant attitude, company is in mood to quit the sanitation work all the wards of the town. Stating the major demands of the company, Jain said that “We have been consistently demanding a hike in the tipping fees of the company but to no avail”.

He stated that the company has several times stated their demands of making the tipping fees to Rs 525, which is currently Rs 360.  Infuriated with the ignorant and un-cordial behaviour of the MCD official, company said that we have come here for business and are currently suffering a huge loss of around Rs 15 lakh due to the un-cordial attitude of MCD officials.

Pointing few senior official of MCD for all the existing discrepancies in the sanitation works, Jain said that the few senior officials at MCD are treating the company employees as contractors.  “We are the PPP partner and can’t work under any pressure with MCD,” claimed Jain. lastly, he also stated that company would continue its work only all its demands are met with.
