As polling date is inching closer the war of words is getting sharper between political parties especially BJP and Congress in the State. In this regard State BJP alleged that Harish Rawat led Uttarakhand Government is running political vendetta by recommending CBI probe in the multi crore NRHM scam in the State to get political mileage only. With this recommendation CM Rawat wants to target two former CMs including Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank because NRHM scam’s period was 2008-09 then Gen Khanduri was Chief Minister of state and Dr Nishank was holding the health portfolio as well.
Interestingly all the allegations are being made against Dr Nishank, who is contesting election against Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s wife Renuka Rawat from Haridwar lok Sabha seat, by the Congress. As if CM wants to regain Haridwar lok Sabha constituency so he is firing the entire bullet (allegations) against Dr Nishank. Currently State Medical Education Minister Harak Singh Rawat is contesting election against Gen Khanduri from Garhwal lok Sabha seat.
Talking to The Pioneer leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Ajay Bhatt alleged that recently CM Rawat has recommended for CBI enquiry into the alleged misdeed in the procurement of medicines under NRHM at a time when the poll campaign are at their peak and Model Code of Conduct is in force shows that State is running political vendetta against his Opposition.
The Model Code of Conduct is in force shows that the State Government doing all this as political vendetta. They did all this in hurry and even they did not bother to seek prior permission from Election commission. It seems they want to divert the attention of people because Congress has realised that they are going to lose all five seats in the State.
The Chief Minister had recommended a CBI probe last week into the scam pertaining to large-scale irregularities in the distribution of medicines worth over Rs14 crore under NRHM in the hill State in 2008-2009 when BJP's Nishank was in power. It is being presumed that the issue has been revived deliberately to damage the ex CM Dr Nishank. In the beginning CM Rawat alleged that Dr Nishank should answer to the people about the Kumbha budget, which was around Rs600 crore and released by Congress led UPA Govt to organise Kumbha Mela-2010. later he recommended CBI enquiry in so called NRHM scam for the year 2008-09.
