The war of words between the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) Company has taken another turn with the Congress councillors opposing the ‘tyrannical’ attitude of the company officials. Congress councillors addressed the media persons at the corporation on this issue on Thursday.
leader of Opposition at MCD, Ninu Sehgal alleged that the company officials are just trying to blackmail the MCD officials and unfortunately the officials at MCD are also busy appeasing the company. He added, “Having been elected councillors in the corporation by the public, we are accountable to reply only to the MCD regarding any queries related to sanitation arrangement of the city. But unwillingly we are now being forced to reply to and seek permission related to the sanitation work from a private firm owner, which is demoralising for the councillors.”
The lethargic attitude of the company officials which is considered as a major cause of the deteriorating level of sanitation in the State capital is well known to all, stated the Congress councillors. They said that the demand of the Congress councillors to provide separate bins was also discarded by the MCD officials last month. Sehgal said that the garbage remains scattered in various areas of the town and the company officials responsible for maintaining the sanitation arrangement hardly bother to look into the matter.
The company officials were just trying to hide their inefficiency by showing the 20 wards which are being managed by the MCD during the inspection drive conducted by the principal secretary, Urban Development and other officials including District Magistrate on Wednesday, he stressed. The wards managed by the company are in worse condition and even the vehicles of the company have not been repaired for quite some time now in spite of repeated reminders.
