In a sort of anticlimax of the build-up to the visit of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for inspection of Doon Medical College on Wednesday, the MCI team proved elusive, not turning up on the day.

It was widely expected that the team would visit the medical college and the associated hospital on Wednesday for re-inspection of the facilities. The hospital and the college were all geared up for the major task on the day. The doctors and other staff members of the hospital arrived before time and everything looked perfect and in order.

The hospital wore a clean look with toilets free from usual litter. later in the day it became clear that the team has not turned up. The Principal of the DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that the team of MCI is expected to visit anytime in this week.

The management of the DMC was so confident about the visit of the team that it had asked the Ayurveda and Homeopathy wings of the hospital to remain close for Wednesday and Thursday. The daily OPD of these wings is more than 200 and many patients visiting the hospital for treatment of theseforms of the medicines were shocked to know that apart from being closed therooms had different name plates pasted on them. The room of homeopathydoctor had a slip of one of associate Professor whilethe medicine store room was posed as pantry.

The management and the staff of the hospital and DMC would be on their toestill the MCI completes its inspection. The earlier team which inspected the facilities in month of Januaryhad listed many shortcomings and asked the authorities to get them rectified.

The DMC Principal is confident that the MCI would give its letter of Permission (lOP) as all necessary tasks are completed. It is worth mentioning here that theMCI has visited DMC and the associated hospital five times in last three years and was unimpressed with the preparations on all these occasions.
