The long-awaited helipad that keeps eluding the holy city despite VVIPs visiting it in their hordes all year round is all set to become a reality soon. Things seem to have made a headway as the district officials along with a team of civil aviation department from Dehradun inspected the land earmarked for the helipad on Friday. The officials said that the trees would be lopped to clear the land soon.
With no other helipad available to the district administration, the choppers with the VVIPs on board land at the ground of Dayanand Stadium of Gurukul Kangri University. But this is inviting criticism as the sports activities of the university are being affected. The demand of two helipads being raised a long time ago, the guide map was approved by the district administration for two helipads at different locations. However, on the ground, things remain stuck there.
The inspecting team headed by Sunil Jain from civil aviation department Dehradun and the city magistrate Jai Bharat Singh inspected the area near Shahid Park. Speaking to The Pioneer, Jain said, “As per the protocols, after the site preparation is completed a double engine helicopter would land in the city. The clearing of bushes needs to be done for the same.”
