If Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is voted to power in Uttarakhand then new administrative units would be carved out within a time period of two months and the State would witness unprecedented growth, said the newly anointed State president Bhrigurashan Rao while interacting with The Pioneer.
He reminded that it was BSP superemo Mayawati who created four new districts and 10 Tehsils during her stint as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in the areas which is now Uttarakhand. “The declaration of the former BJP Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank of creation of four new districts is yet to see the light of the day. The people of Uttrakhand are fed up with the false promises of both BJP and Congress. The BSP is now in a position to provide third alternative to the people of the State,’’ he said.
The BSP State President claimed that the traditional voters of BSP were influenced by the agenda of Hindutva in the Assembly elections of 2012 and general elections of 2014, but now those voters are back into the fold of the party.
On the failure of party to perform well outside Haridwar district especially in hill areas, Rao said that the party is regularly getting cadre votes in these areas and in the current political situation where people are disillusioned by both the BJP and Congress it would be a only matter of time for the party to get support of people. He said that the BSP would be strengthened by the fact that three former state Presidents CP Singh, Nathu Singh and Suraj Mal are back into the party fold.
In a bid to revive sagging fortunes of party in the State, the BSP Supremo Mayawati recently appointed Rao as new party president replacing Satish Kumar. She also took back explusion of three former party presidents, a move which is being seen as a damage control exercise in Haridwar district in wake exodus of many leaders from the party in recent times.
It is worth mentioning here that the Haridwar district holds the key to the success of party in Uttarakhand from where it won all its three seats in last assembly elections. In Haridwar the Muslim and Dalits constitute 45 percent of total electorate and party holds considerable influence on these sections.
