The Uttarakhand Forensic Science laboratory, Premnagar, here has finally begun viscera examination. The lab that, around a month back, equipped itself with equipment required for viscera testing examined a viscera sample and is working on some others. The lab also carried out 12 DNA testing related to paternity cases.

Embarking on the facility in mid-April, the lab has tested one viscera sample. The facility is sure to expedite investigation of the different cases since the lab will provide the reports of such testing in minimum possible time. Further efforts are on to modernize the laboratory to enhance testing efficiency. In the beginning, the lab will carry out normal viscera testing. In near future, it will start examining all sorts of viscera.

Director laboratory, deputy inspector general of police (CID) PS Sailal said, “Viscera testing facility is now available at our lab. It will ensure timely completion of investigation of various cases since the police officials will get report of viscera testing soon.” He claims that he would try to modernise the lab further.

Before commencement of the viscera testing facility, the police personnel had to go to Chandigarh or lucknow for getting viscera tested. It used to waste lot of time of police department and also added to the expense on the process. Commencement of the facility will save time and expense both.

If sources are to be believed, it is working on some such cases of similar nature. The lab also plans to start testing of complicated cases of DNA in near future. When the facility starts, the lab will take complicated samples those collected from the spot of crime incident.

At present, the laboratory can produce report of DNA testing with in three days that may vary to one month depending on the nature of sample. The laboratory administration is also planning to send its scientists for advanced training in order to ensure testing of complicated samples in the laboratory itself.

Sailal said, “We are looking forward to start examination of complicated samples of viscera in near future. We are getting some sophisticated equipments to the lab in order to enhance its efficiency. Optimistically, facility starting will prove a great help for the police officials.”

Presently, the lab is equipped with the facility to examine samples blood, hair, narcotics substances and chemical poisons.
