Viscera of deceased sent to Forensic Science laboratory

The police have sent the viscera of the patient who allegedly died due to  wrong injection being administered by a doctor on June 6 at Coronation Hospital, to the Forensic Science laboratory, Agra, for examination.

Dalanwala police station in-charge inspector Surendra Singh Sawant said that the post-mortem examination done on the deceased had not revealed much about the actual cause leading to his death. “We have sent the viscera of the deceased to the Forensic Science laboratory, Agra for examination. We hope that things would be clear after we receive the report,” he added.

He further said that they have sent a notice to the family members of the deceased who had allegedly manhandled the doctor over the same issue.

Besides, an inquiry is being done by a sub-inspector in regards to a complaint submitted by deceased’s family, stating that their relative Rajesh Kumar died due to the doctor’s negligence and wrong injection being administered by him. Action would be taken based on the inquiry report, he added.

It should be mentioned that one Rajesh Kumar (48), a resident of Rajesh Rawat colony and a mason by profession, visited the hospital in the morning of June 6 with pain in his right arm. The doctor on duty, Dr SK Verma after examining him administered a pain killing injection after which the patient left for home.

The relatives of Kumar alleged that he started sweating profusely shortly after he reached home. Before they could understand what was happening, he collapsed. Alarmed relatives rushed him to the Coronation hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The furious relatives created ruckus in the hospital and manhandled Dr Verma.

Observers opine that the incidents of persons dying due to doctor’s negligence being on the rise, the doctors responsible for such deaths are hardly punished. “This is most unfortunate that things are so. What happens is neither an FIR is lodged nor an inquiry is set up by the health department or police department to verify the medical negligence allegations.

The doctors supposedly responsible get away with things in most of the cases. This is what is driving the near ones of the victims to the point of desperation. When viewed objectively, violent reactions we are now witnessing can hardly be dealt with as law and order problem. These are by way of venting helpless anger against those who they think are responsible for the untimely death of their near ones. The system must be overhauled to ensure justice is meted out.  It would also stop the doctors from acting recklessly with scant regard for the life of one who is brought to him for recovery,” one of the observers said.
