Villagers up in arms against mining mafia

In a bid to protest against the attack on Statehood freedom-fighter Prabhat Dhyani and social activist Munish Kumar, allegedly by the mining mafia in Ramnagar on Tuesday, citizens including members of different social organisations took to the streets and kept the markets in Ramanagar closed on Wednesday. Statehood freedom fighter Prabhat Dhyani and social activists Munish Kumar came under the alleged attack of the mining mafia in Ramnagar on Tuesday when the former came in support of people of  Ramnagar’s Veerpurlachhi village against the mining mafia.

The villagers of Veerpurlachhi village had also blocked the road passing through their village that the mining mafia used for transportation, sometimes back. The agitating villagers were of the view that the road has been constructed on their fields. So, the villagers and the mining group are at loggerheads over this issue. Therefore, in protest against the blocking of this road by villagers, the people belonging to mining sector were staging protest in the Veerpurlachhi village on Tuesday.

However, when Prabhat Dhyani and Munish Kumar also stood by the villagers, the people associated with mining allegedly attacked Prabhat Dhyani and Munish Kumar near Thari Crossing in Ramangar on Tuesday. However, following the protest by the agitating citizens, the district administration Nainital and the Nainital district police swung into action to maintain peace and law and order. A case has already been registered by the Ramnagar police on the complaint of injured Munish Kumar against unknown persons who were allegedly  involved in this attack. Further efforts are on to identify the attackers and to nab them, said the Ramnagar police. In the meanwhile, injured Prabhat Dhyani has been shifted to a hospital in Haldwani for further treatment.

At the same expressing concern over attack on Prabhat Dhyani and Munish kumar, senior Congress leader Dheerendra Pratap has urged the State Government to strongly deal with the mining mafia in the State. I have talked to all the senior party leaders including the Chief Minister in regard to this incident that occurred in  Ramnagar on Tuesday and urged them to take strong action against the culprits, added Pratap.
