Villagers living in fear after flood alert

With the rivers in spate due to continuous rains over the past few days, the villagers in the river valley areas in Tehri district are living in fear of floods. The water is moving towards the human habitations at many places. The district administration has issued alert in the river valleys in apprehension of floods.

like last year when flood in the Dharmganga river had damaged 10 buildings, including homes and shops, the locals are apprehensive about the possibility of a flood in the river at Budhakedar.

Several villagers have shifted away from their homes in fear of imminent flood. According to local sources, rising levels of this river have swept away a 50 metre stretch of the Budhakedar-Anguda motor road. The flood safety work being undertaken along the river has been stalled by the rising level of water in the river.

The water level has risen in Ghuttu. The rising waters of the Balganga river are threatening Sarash and Semli settlements while the main market area in Ghansali is also facing the risk of flood with water level rising in the river. Budhakedar resident RP Semwal said that he was forced to shift out of his home which was in danger of being flooded by the rising waters of the river while Ghansali resident Sohan Singh said that locals are living in fear of imminent flood.
