To offset the impact of the BJP’s Pardafaash rally, the State Congress is all set to organise Vikash Sankalp yatra (development pledge rally) from Khatima on September 12. Besides, the block Congress will felicitate the teachers on teachers day in recognition of sterling contribution in the realm of teaching. This aside, the families of the Kargil martyrs will be felicitated by the district Congress on September 9. These decisions were taken at the Congress committee meeting, which was attended by state Congress assistant incharge Sanjay Kapoor, Chief Minister Harish Rawat, cabinet minister Yashpal Arya and all the MlAs in the party office on Saturday. The meeting began at 11 am and concluded at 5 pm.
It was a mind boggling session with the leaders deliberating on how to counter BJP ahead of Assembly election.
PCC president Kishore Upadhyay said that to spread the state government’s myriad achievements and to counter the BJP’s Pardafaash rally, the state Congress is going to organize area wise vikash sankalp yatra (VSR). “It will travel each 14 Assembly constituencies falling under five lok Sabha constituencies. In each constituency, the team will stay there and during their stay they will educate the people about the state government’s achievements by organising a public meeting. They will also educate how BJP led Union government is taking the people of the state for a ride. The yatra would be for 14-15 days in each of the lok Sabha constituencies,” he said.
He also appreciated the party workers who stood rock like by the party when it was embroiled in a grave political crisis. “They were tough 55 days. Their support kept our morale up during the travails of the crisis. Now, they are taking pledge to teach BJP lessons in the upcoming Assembly election,” he said.
“By promoting defection and imposing President’s rule in the state, the Centre has made the state suffer a severe dent. After general election 2014, we were not confident enough as to whether we would survive or not. But now, we are confident to survive and even to win the coming election hands down under the dynamic leadership of the of CM Harish Rawat. The by-polls we won made things clear that the party is on the winning streak,” he said.
CM Rawat, who attended the meeting between3.30pm to 5 pm, said that the Assembly election approaching nearer, no government can reach out to the people unless and until the party workers educate the people about the government’s achievements. “It is the duty of the party workers to educate the people and help the wrong notion of the government getting removed,” he said.
He exhorted the workers to pull up socks and plunge in to the heat of electioneering exposing the BJP, now engaged in pardafaash rally. “The party workers are the principal pillars of the government. And unless they are in good humour no government can deliver to the people,” he said, in a conciliatory note meant to placate the state party president who has been raising harangues on the government keeping the party in the cold.
