In view of increasing cases of illegal mining from riverbeds, Illegal Mining Prevention Vigilance Unit chief executive officer DIG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal led a team that conducted raids at mining patches of Uttarakhand Forest Develop-ment Corporation, Doiwala in Dehradun on Monday.
DIG Gunjyal said that during inspection, the team observed irregularities at places like weighing scale, entrance and exit gate of mining lots. Taking cognisance of this, a detailed inspection report was written to UFDC and the State Government. He further said that trucks carrying quarried riverbed materials from Jakhan, Baksar and Ranipokhri were inspected by the team. In their written complaints, the drivers stated that they were charged Rs 100 illegally at the weighing scale. Taking cognisance of the complaint, Gunjyal has written a letter to UFDC managing direction seeking an inquiry.
The team found illegally quarried riverbed material amounting to around Rs 75 lakh lying outside UFDC patches and lodged an FIR under appropriate sections of IPC and Mining Act against unidentified persons in the Doiwala Police Station.
