The Armed forces veterans have expressed their happiness at the successful surgical strikes against militants by the Indian army inside Myanmar.
They, however, cautioned that the military establishment should be ready for retaliatory action which the armed insurgents can undertake.
The Indian Army had conducted a special operation inside the territory of Myanmar on Tuesday and killed scores of armed militants hiding in the neighbouring country.
lt Gen HB Kala (Retd) said such surgical strikes were long overdue and the swiftness in which the operation was conducted underlined the capabilities of the Indian armed forces. He said the strike had given a warning signal to other militant groups as well.
State president of Ex-services league, Brigadier RS Rawat (Rtd) said the operation was successful as the Government of Myanmar was taken into confidence by the Indian Government. He said such cooperation was not expected from Pakistan and a strong political will was needed for any such operation against the militants hiding in that country.
He also congratulated the armed forces for the successful operation in Myanmar but questioned the propriety of revealing the details of the operation and identity of the unit which accomplished it.
Col Pl Parashar (Rtd) linked the militants ambush against army which resulted in martyrdom for 20 Jawans on June 4 with the removal of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSA) in Manipur.
He stressed the need of special powers to the armed forces to deal with armed insurgents in different parts of the country. Also, Parashar expressed his displeasure on revealing the identity of the army unit (Para commandos) which participated in the operation against Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) militants inside the territory of Myanmar.
