Very heavy rain likely to lash several districts

The State Meteorological Department has issued a heavy to very heavy rain alert for a large swathe of Uttarakhand on Friday. The districts of the State which are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain include Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Nanital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh. Besides, the rest of the State might receive moderate rain and thundershowers on the day. The Met department said that the wet spell with varied intensity would continue across the State till the end of the month. The sky would remain generally cloudy across the state for the next two days, the weathermen said.

As for Dehradun city, the Met centre said that one or two spells of rain and thundershowers are likely to lash it on Friday. Meanwhile, it rained heavily in the city for some hours on Thursday during the noon and the afternoon, which resulted in wide-spread water-logging in several parts of the city. Consequently, the commuters were inconvenienced as huge traffic congestion ensued in the waterlogged roads. A commuter, found stranded in his car on bustling Rajpur Road, said that the city roads going under water following a spell of rain tells the sad story of the city. “I wonder whether anything is being done to free the roads of water-logging which recurs every year. We can understand the condition of the lesser roads when the main roads of the city are getting under water after it rains moderately. We do not know what is in store if it rains torrentially for some hours,” the commuter said.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded in the various cities  of the state were Dehradun 27.6 degree Celsius and 25.1 degree Celsius, Pant Nagar 31.5 degree Celsius and 25.1 degree Celsius, Mukteshwar 17.7 degree Celsius and 13.6 degree Celsius, and New Tehri 21.2 degree Celsius and 18.2 degree Celsius respectively.
