Varsities should make their campuses smart: Guv

In sync with the talk of smart cities the universities of State should also think on the lines of making their campuses smart, opined the Governor of Uttarakhand Dr KK Paul while addressing ‘Toppers Conclave’ organised at Raj Bhawan on Monday.  He suggested that the campus of Doon University should take lead in this regard and set up an example for others to follow.
The Governor said that the great tradition of education once symbolised by universities like Nalanda, Vikramshila and Takshashila in India must be re-established. He exhorted the universities of the state to take up the challenge to transform them into centres of excellence. The governor said that the conclave is probably first of its kind in the country where toppers would be given an environment which would help them in playing an active role in the development of the state and the nation.  This would also help them emerge as role-models for other students.  He added that the event would stress upon highlighting their creativity, applying their skills and knowledge and making them understand their cultural environment. Education should not be merely confined to the classrooms  but should  extend for the betterment of society and  the nation.  Missions  like Swachh Bharat, Adarsh Gram, Digital India and Make in India should be linked with the activities of universities. Universities  should play a role in all the ambitious schemes of the central  Government. “Our education model must not only develop the mind but also create positive mind-sets. Expanding a student’s ability must go hand in hand with building his attitude. A creative mind-set combined with a positive attitude can help unearth solutions to problems afflicting the society”, he said
Speaking on the occasion the Vice Chancellor of Kumaun University, H S Dhammi congratulated the governor for conceptualizing the conclave. He asked the students to take inspiration from the life of late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.  Former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand R S Tolia delivered a lecture on ‘Importance of good governance and ethics in Public administration’.  Twenty meritorious students from the universities of the state are participating in the five day conclave.
