The Government hospitals of Haridwar districts are hoping that the recent visit of Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan would improve the medical facilities in near future. Proposals for financial assistance worth Rs 13.30 crores were submitted to Health Minister during his visit.

Dr Harsh Vardhan during his inspection stressed the need for qualitative improvements in the facilities of the district hospitals.  He discussed the situation of these hospitals with the doctors, district administration officials and the hospital staff and assured of central monetary assistance to improve their condition.

The hospitals of Haridwar are also reeling under shortage of doctors. During his visit Dr Harsh Vardhan had expressed concern over the shortage of doctors there.

The HMG district hospital has only 13 doctors against a sanctioned strength of 22 while only 4 doctors are posted in the Government Mela Hospital which has 12 sanctioned posts of doctors.

The district Female hospital though has 7 doctors against the sanctioned posts of 9 doctors, the hospital authorities here believe that more staff including doctors is needed for smooth functioning of the hospital.

The Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of District Female Hospital, Dr Bhawani Pal told The Pioneer that the staff sanctioned for the hospital is for 38 beds while the hospital has 50 beds now.

“Soon we would shift to a new building which would have 62 beds as 50 beds are for female adult patients and 12 beds for new born babies. So we need at least 9 more doctors and sufficient support staff for smooth functioning here”, she said.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Haridwar district, Dr Sushma Gupta said that for the HMG district hospital a proposal of Rs 10.7 Crore financial assistance was handed over to the Union Health Minister.

The above mentioned sum is needed for installing Generator, CT scan machine, Digital X ray and modernising the Operation Theatre.
