In this era of tweeting and micro blogging, technology has set various celebration trends. E-gifting is one such emerging trend which was preferred by couples here to express their sentiments and impress their partners on this Valentine’s Day in the State capital.
Instead of visiting shops and queuing, consumers now prefer to use their smart phones and tablets to select and purchase gifts. Various emerging websites arrange palatable gifting articles with 24x7 service. These sites provide an array of Valentine gifting options which can easily be sent with the click of a mouse to anywhere in India. Interestingly, the midnight gifting trend offered by these online portals adds charm to the occasion for many as most of the youth in the town preferred this trend to surprise their partner on V-Day. Florists are also taking orders online.
Bharat Gulati of Charan Das Phool Wale at Paltan Bazaar, maintained that in spite of the augmented cost of roses this year, the flow of customers was not affected at all. He said that generally the youths preferred midnight gifting trend and more than 200 online bookings were made on Valentine’s Day this year. “Seeing the soaring demand of the customers on the occasion I had hired around 10 extra sales boys on my shop”. He also said that the newly married couples preferred to gift rose bouquet with different gift items and cakes to their partners especially during the evening.
The youths were particular about the midnight gift delivery timing and had several times reminded the shopkeeper to not delay the delivery, added Gulati. Engineering student Rajnish Singh said that flowers are the exotic medium of expressing one’s love so he chose to gift a bunch of red roses with chocolate and greeting card which he ordered online form Ferns and Petal shop at Subhash Road.
He said that as this was his first Valentine’s Day he wanted to leave no stone unturned to surprise his partner so he especially preferred the midnight delivery. It is pertinent to mention that though the midnight gifting option was costlier ranging between Rs 500-Rs 20,000 it was preferred the most. As per Ravinder Bhandari owner of Buds Florist at Rajpur Road this year the cost of roses was comparatively high compared to last year as this year.
