Uttarkashi cops told to conduct fresh probe

To solve the broad daylight murder of Archana Jain, wife of senior advocate Anil Kumar Jain of Purola, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand Inspector General of Police (IG) Ram Singh Meena said that he has directed Uttarkashi police to conduct fresh investigation of this case on Tuesday.

Archana Jain was brutally murdered by unidentified persons in broad daylight on September 14, 2013. When questioned about the demand for independent inquiry of this case raised by the deceased's husband, the IG said that police had conducted thorough investigation in this case and persons named by Jain were also investigated thoroughly, but police did not find any clues to arrest anyone in this case. Police had investigated several angles like accused's location on the day of murder, property dispute and facets, but police are yet to find any clue in this case, he added.

He further said that in the murder case of Pushpa Saklani, wife of senior advocate OP Saklani in Dehradun, the district police had conducted thorough investigation and accused were arrested, though this case was later referred to Central Bureau of Investigation. In Jain's murder, police had conducted thorough investigation and presently there is no need to transfer this case to CBCID or other agency, as district police has enough resources to investigate this case.

Responding to the demand for independent investigation of this murder by an agency like CBI, several organisations, including Ravain Advocate Association, Uttarkashi Advocate Association; Ravain Vyapar Organisation, Uttarakhand Bar Council and members of various organisations, have so far demonstrated at various places.

Advocate Jain said that three months have passed since the murder of his wife, but police have found no clue yet. No one has been arrested by the police so far, though he had given some names to the police.  He further alleged that police is patronising the accused because they are not taking action in this case.

Jain, who had come to secretariat to meet chief minister officer and home department, has demanded that the State Government conduct CBI enquiry because he wants justice.
