Uttarakhand natives living in Delhi on Sunday staged a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi in support of their demand for being accorded 10 per cent tickets by all political parties in the Assembly elections in Delhi.
Uttarakhand Rajya Nirman Andolankari Samman Parishad vice-chairman Dhirendra Pratap handed over a letter of support from Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya to the demonstration organiser Uttarakhand Ekta Manch. He said that a Congress delegation would meet the party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to raise this demand.
According to Pratap, a large number of Uttarakhandis congregated at Jantar Mantar on Sunday to put pressure on political parties for giving adequate representation to the politically active Uttarakhandis in the national capital. He said that noted folk singer Narendra Singh Negi and BJP MlA Mohan Singh Bisht also attended the demonstration and extended their full support to the demand raised by Uttarakhand natives living in Delhi.
later, while addressing the media, Pratap justified the demand of the Uttarakhandis in Delhi stating that when members of the Jat, Gujjars and other communities who were less in number were getting considerable representation in the major political parties, the Uttarakhandis have a population of more than 20 lakh in Delhi and should not be ignored.
He pointed out that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had already declared his full support to this demand. Pratap added that in a near future, a delegation of Congress leaders from Uttarakhand would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi in support of the demand for broader representation of Uttarakhand representatives in the 2015 Assembly polls in Delhi.
