Uttarakhand to receive electricity from neighbours

Published on:

More electricity will be received from the Muzaffarnagar-Roorkee and Moradabad-Kashipur feeders instead of the regular 350 MW electricity. The final clearance of the 300 MW Bawla Nandprayag hydel project will be received by February.

A meeting between the chief secretaries of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be held to arrive at an agreement on the multipurpose Kisau Dam project. This decision was taken by the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar at a meeting held in New Delhi with Union Power Secretary BK Sinha and Central Electricity Authority Chairperson Neerja Mathur.

It may be noted here that several hydel projects and power houses were damaged during the recent Uttarakhand disaster. This has led to a lot of difference between the electricity demand and electricity generated. An increase in the electricity capacity of the Roorkee feeder from 350 MW to 500 MW was demanded by the state. In this regard, the CS also met the Union Power Secretary and Chairperson, CEA.

The CS has requested an increase in the electricity capacity of the Muzaffarnagar-Roorkee to 650 MW. Uttarakhand is so far getting 350 MW electricity. The Union Power Secretary has assured the CS that maximum electricity will be provided over the feeder. The Chief Secretary, Subhash Kumar, said that all formalities regarding Bawla Nandprayag (300 MW) hydel project had been completed.

He said that techno economic clearance must also be given. The CS also spoke about taking a decision on the Kisau Dam project. The Union Power Secretary also has given an assurance on taking a decision with joint inputs from CS of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This will lead to a benefit in irrigation and drinking water for five States.
