Uttarakhand stands third in representation of GCs; UP tops

Uttarakhand continues to be on forefront when it comes to sending its men to serve in the armed forces of the country.  Fifty-two young men from the tiny State would become officers in the Indian Army after the POP of Spring term 2016 on Saturday.

A total of 595 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) belonging to 138 Regular Course, 121 Technical Graduate Course (TGC) and 24 University Entry Scheme (UES) would don the colours of Indian army on Saturday when they step out of the academy.

Uttar Pradesh with 98 GCs leads the table of State wise representation of GCs. Bihar and Haryana with 60 GCs each are tied at second place while the Himalayan State of Uttarakhand is third in the list with a contribution of 52 GCs.

Incidentally Madhya Pradesh the second biggest State of India would contribute only 14 GCs in the passing out contingent of officers. The non inclination of the people of Gujarat in serving in the armed forces is clearly evident this time also as only four GCs are from this State.

Another big State Andra Pradesh also fares poorly in the list with only eight GCs. The States of Chattisgarh and Jharkhand which were created along with Uttarakhand in the year 2000 also has less representation with only 4 and 8 GC this time, despite being much bigger in area and population than Uttarakhand.

Forty five GCs from six friendly nations of Afghanistan, Maldives, Tajikistan, Mauritius, Bhutan and lesotho would also pass out from IMA on Saturday. The maximum number of foreign cadets would be from Afghanistan with strength of 27 cadets.
