To assess the post-earthquake situation, the State Government had convened a meeting with the officials, the Chief Minister Harish Rawat said on Monday. If any exigency like what has happened in Nepal occurs, we would not be found wanting in prompt response, he said.
First, by way of deriving lesson from what Nepal faced, we have asked the disaster response authority to upgrade itself. If any equipment is to be procured it should be procured right now.
“For, we have allocated Rs 50 lakh to each of the district authorities. Even we asked them to identify the fault-lines and constitute response team at block levels. This aside, we have decided to strengthen our SDRF. For this we would impart training for 2,000 police personnel for a few weeks so that they would be deployed in the rescue and relief operation in case of emergency,” the CM said.
“Besides, we are going to rope in Civil defence, PRD, Home Guard, Scout, NCC and NSS in the process so as to make full use of their expertise. We have asked them to enforce safety measure compliance in high-rise buildings especially those located in the fault-line areas. Besides, we are also going to develop motorbike ambulance on the pattern of 108.
The driver would be from police and pillion rider would be from health department. They would exchange their mobile numbers to ensure their response time is less. As far as trauma centre is concerned, we have sent out team on study tour to Delhi and will make law on the pattern of Australia,” Rawat said.
As far as Dopplar Radar installation is concerned, the State Government has allocated land to the weather department and now the matter is pending before the Union government, he added.
