Stating that Uttarakhand has a vital role not only in the national but also the global environmental situation, Chief Minister Harish Rawat on the occasion of World Environment Day exhorted the people of Uttarakhand to make active contribution towards environmental conservation for human welfare.
The CM stressed that participation of the general public in environmental conservation is essential, while also emphasising on the need for publicity and raising public awareness on environmental conservation. Rawat said that the unscientific felling of forests, emission of green house gases and other aspects of environmental imbalance are issues of global concern. Rawat emphasised on the need for increasing awareness among the public regarding the damaging effects of inorganic waste.
Stressing on the necessity of achieving balance between ‘development’ and the environment, the Chief Minister exhorted the public, public representatives and voluntary organisations to maximise plantation of trees while also raising public awareness on the environment.
