Toeing the line of its central leadership, the Uttarakhand Congress has also decided to oppose holding of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examinations.
The important examinations are scheduled to be held in the first week of September. Opposing the decision to conduct these examinations, the Uttarakhand Congress party has said that it would hold state-wide demonstrations against the move on August 28.
Terming the decision as impractical and dangerous, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh said that the union government is not bothered about the lives of the students.
He said that the pandemic of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) is at its peak and everyday thousands of new cases are being reported and during such times the government is determined to conduct examinations.
He said that the Congress party would hold a protest in front of central institutes in all district headquarters on Friday and demand postponement of these examinations.
In Dehradun, the Congress would observe a protest at the regional office of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at 10.30 am on Friday.
Launching an attack on the central and state governments, Singh said that it is unfortunate that on one hand the government is registering false cases against the opposition leaders in order to hide its failure of controlling the spread of Covid-19 and on the other hand is hell bent to hold JEE and NEET examinations.
He added that apart from pandemic, many parts of the country are facing the problem of floods triggered by heavy rains and during such circumstances the holding of these examinations cannot be justified.
The PCC president suggested that these examinations should be held when the situation normalises.
