Uttarakhand buses to have dustbins soon

Published on:

The buses of Uttarakhand roadways would soon have dustbins so that the passengers could use them to dispose of the waste which they usually litter on the floors of the buses. In the top end Volvo or deluxe buses the helper would have a sack for the purpose and he would have to reach to every passenger to throw waste in it.

In a letter directed to all Divisional Managers (operations and technical) and all Assistant General Managers the General Manager Operations, Deepak Jain has asked them to put a small dustbin or plastic or jute bag in buses. This waste bin would be placed behind the seat of the driver.

He has also asked the officers to ensure that all the buses should necessarily have a message pasted in which an appeal to the passengers to use the dust bin or waste packet is made. In the appeal the passengers would be requested to throw things like wrappers, foils, fruit peel, seeds, groundnut shells, empty water bottles and other waste in the bin. The GM has also directed the officers concerned to ensure that the waste collected in these bins is disposed of properly.

Dehradun resident, Amar Bahadur Maurya had written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of January this year in which he had suggested that a waste bin should be placed in the buses of the State transport so that they are spared from being littered with waste. In response to the letter the PMO had asked the State Government to act on the suggestion.

The commuters seem to be happy with the move to place waste bins in the buses of state transport. “It is common practice that people throw things like wrappers and peels on the floor of the buses which makes them dirty. Some people throw waste out of the windows which too is wrong and dangerous. With the government planning to introduce waste bins the buses would be more clean and hygienic. It also goes hand in hand with Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,’’ said one of an elated regular commuter.
