Employees of the Uttarakhand Transport Ministerial Employees Union (UTMEU) went on a three-day strike in support of their pending demand regarding promotions of the RTO employees.
Officials of the RTO have refused to return to work till their demands are met. The protesters maintained that the department is lacking sufficient number of employees. They also said that around 90 per cent posts of the senior assistants are still vacant in the department after the last year's promotions of the then senior assistants.
Employees said that they had meetings with the senior officials many times but their demands were consistently ignored by the officials concerned. Earlier the protesters were agitating in the morning by boycotting work for two hours but as part of their second phase of the strike they decided to go on a three-day strike. All the counters at the RTO were closed which created problems for the visitors.
Agitated employees have threatened to intensify their strike if their demands are not fulfilled. Among the protesters were Jiten Thakur, BD Joshi, Sushma Choudhary, Sanjeev Mishra, Mukul Agrawal, Manoj Pathak, Yashveer Singh Bisht and others.
