In a brazen incident of intimidation, an under trial (UT), seemingly perturbed with a surgeon of Doon Hospital for not giving him enough attention, asked the doctor to shell out Rs10 lakh or else face dire consequences.Official sources said that UT Dilbag Singh, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar district, was currently lodged in Haridwar central jail.Singh claimed to be suffering from piles problem for which he regularly frequented to the hospital. The contractual surgeon of Hospital, Dr Vipul Kandwal, was treating him. Singh reportedly got annoyed at the doctor for not giving enough attention to him.
On Wednesday the doctor was shocked to receive a letter in which Singh demanded an extortion of Rs 10 lakh. Interestingly the criminal had also mentioned his account number in the letter in which the money was to be deposited. In the letter, Singh threatened the doctor that if the money was not deposited within next fifteen days then he would be shot dead. The terrified doctor met with the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of the hospital in afternoon and showed him the letter who in turn informed the police.
The PMS, Dr RS Aswal told The Pioneer that the letter was handed over to the local police post.He disclosed that the patient had threatened another surgeon Dr KK Tamta of the hospital in past. When contacted, Dr Kandwal told this reporter that he was not filing any compliant with the police as he was of the opinion that the patient was mentally unstable. He said the patient regularly complains of piles related pain ostensibly to get a chance to come out of the Jail.
