The strike call given by Uttaranchal Roadways Karmachari Union (URKU) is expected to hit the services of Uttarakhand roadways badly on Thursday. The URKU has given a strike call to press for its demand of regularisation of all contractual workers of Uttarakhand roadways. The divisional secretary of the URKU, KP Singh told The Pioneer that since majority of the bus drivers and conductors are members of the association, the strike would be a success.
He said that the management of the roadways is coming in way of regularisation of contractual workers but the workers are determined to continue the agitation till their demands are met with. The URKU had earlier gone on strike on the same issue on September 16.
Meanwhile the other union the Uttarakhand Roadways Sanyukt Parishad (URSP) has taken an opposite view on the issue. The general secretary of URSP, Ram Chandra Raturi claimed that the URKU has bifurcated as the contractual drivers and conductors who are residents of Uttarakhand have maintained a distance from the strike call. He said that the URSP would hold Dharnas at the depots of state roadways on November 25 to press for the demand for resumption of the recruitment drive on 300 posts of drivers in roadways.
