URKU postpones 3-day strike plan

The Uttaranchal Roadways Karamchari Union (URKU) has deferred its proposed three-day strike which was to start from Thursday. The URKU, the biggest association of drivers and conductors of the state roadways, had given a three-day work boycott call from Thursday.

The state general secretary of URKU, Ashok Choudhary said that the decision to postpone the strike was taken in wake of the tragic death of son of the state Transport minister, Navprabhat. He said that since all the officers and leaders of different unions of roadways were attending the funeral of Minister’s son at Vikasnagar, the scheduled meeting of the association on Wednesday with the roadways administration could not take place. Chaudhary said that the strike would now take place on September 16, 17 and 18 if the demand of employees is not accepted till then.

The association demands that the services of all the contractual workers of state transport career should be regularized. The URKU got irked when the MD of the roadways recently said that roadways only has workers of outsource agency and has no contractual worker.
