Claiming that the State Government is guilty of contempt of court by not releasing about Rs 69 crore to the transport department before Deepawali as directed by the High Court, members of Uttaranchal Roadways Karmchari Union (URKU) conducted a protest at the Kathgodam depot by tying black ribbons on Sunday.

The State president of the union, Kamal Papnay said, “On our petition, the High Court had ordered the State Government to release the pending payment of all public welfare facilities provided by roadways, before Deepawali, but the payment has not been done yet.

Few employees have not been paid the salary of September and now the salary of October is also pending. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation till Sunday paid salary of the month September to 14 depots, rest are still waiting for their salaries. We are registering our protest by tying black ribbons, against this contempt of court that is being done by State authorities. Taking cognisance of public welfare, the buses are being operated as usual and we are not letting our protest affect bus timings.”

General secretary of the union, Ashok Chaudhary said, “Even after the orders of Uttarakhand High Court, the Government and State authorities are not releasing our fund. We do not have any other choice but to file another petition in the court.”
