There is an urgent need to develop awareness in women about breast cancer, said the chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat while addressing a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment camp organised by the Uttarakhand chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Jain Dharmshala here on Sunday. He said that  awareness is needed among masses so that people overcome the hesitation which they have about many diseases. Rawat said that not every cancer is life threatening and if treated in initial stages it can be completely cured.

He said that community participation is required for creating awareness about breast cancer and IMA’s efforts in this direction are laudable. The CM said that the social principle of capable people helping poor and incapable should be brought into practice.

He accepted that the State Government is facing problems in providing doctors at mountainous areas so it has started the universal insurance scheme, the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojna (MSBY) under which an insurance cover of `1.75 lakh per family per year is provided.

The programme was attended by Dr J P Sharma, Dr Alok Mathur, Dr Vidushi Jain, Dr Rekha Srivastava and others.

later in the day Rawat also inaugurated a free health camp and blood donation camp organised by Maharaja Agrasen Charitable hospital and education trust at Niranjanpur.
