Upset over no representation in NDA Cabinet, State gets a morale booster

Published on:

The State BJP leaders might be a bit disappointed with Uttarakhand remaining unrepresented in the Union Cabinet so far, but two leaders from Uttarakhand incorporated in the party organisation at national level has come as a morale booster for the party rank and file.

Earlier, after taking over reins of the party, Amit Shah appointed a senior party leader from Uttarakhand Anil Baluni as the national spokesperson of the party. Interestingly, Baluni was part of Shah's core team when Shah was the party's pointsman for the lok Sabha elections in UP this summer.

Now soon after the election results from two important States — Maharashtra and Haryana — were announced, the party's Central leadership has also re-jigged its organisational hierarchy.

Under this process, the party's national president has again given the party's Uttarakhand unit representation in the organisation at national level by appointing Trivendra Singh Rawat as party in -charge of Jharkhand affairs which is going to polls this year.

Mentionworthy, the development of investing confidence in a leader from the State regarding the poll-bound Jharkhand was the least expected in the light of the BJP's drubbing in the recently-concluded Assembly bypolls in Uttarakhand. The party lost all the three Assembly seats.

The party is still nursing its wounds inflicted by the Congress. More so, Rawat himself had lost the by-elections from the Doiwala Assembly constituency in these bypolls. However, the party activists here have welcomed the party high command's decision to give such a national role to a leader from Uttarakhand.

Expressing happiness over the appointment of Rawat as the in-charge of Jharkhand and Shyam Jaju as the party in-charge of Uttarakhand, senior BJP leader and party's Kumaon convener, Hukum Singh Kunwar, said both the leaders have clean images. This would act as a morale booster for the party rank and file, he said.

The party activists here have also expressed hope that the Union Cabinet would get representations from the State in the coming days. "Expansion of Union Cabinet is due. We are sure that the State whose people blessed all the five candidates of the party for the lok Sabha election with convincing wins would get representation in the Union Cabinet. We expect the lead would come from none other than the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi," said one of the State BJP leaders.
