The normal functioning in the government hospitals returned on Tuesday as the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam limited (UPNl) workers resumed work. The strike of the UPNl workers had affected the health services of the state as large number of UPNl workers are employed in these facilities.

In the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), the return of these workers to duty resulted in normal functioning of the registration counter, billing section, pathology lab and the radiology department. There are 173 UPNl workers who are employed in different departments of the biggest hospital of the state. More than 18000 workers of UPNl working in different departments of state government were on path of agitation for last 26 days. On Monday these workers called off their agitation when the government order (GO) pertaining to their demands was released. The UPNl workers who are working for eight or more years would now be absorbed as contractual workers in the departments they are working. It is important as the state government has recently asked the departments to confirm the services of those employees who are working on contract for five years or more.  The president of the UPNl workers of Doon hospital here Dinesh Rawat said that all the workers have resumed their duties. He said that the Chief Minister Harish Rawat would be requested to grant special relaxation in clause of eight years so that large numbers of workers working in health services also avial the benefit of his declaration.
