UPCl officials involved in corruption: BJP leader

BJP leader Ravindra Jugran alleged while addressing the mediapersons in Dehradun on Thursday that the higher officials of Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) have been indulging in corrupt practices with impunity with the State Government choosing to look the other way.

He cited the case of the State Government extending the service tenure of the corrupt UPCl managing director SS Yadav for the third time, trashing norms and despite his party being vociferous on the matter, as a glaring instance of how the corrupt practice reigning in UPCl being connived at.

Jugran alleged that Chief Minister Harish Rawat being the fountain-head of corruption, UPCl has been reduced to a hub of corruption.

“The graft cases involving the UPCl MD Yadav pending before the state administration, the CM took initiatives to extend his tenure for the third time. It is amazing that the State Government has been sitting on the inquiry into the slew of complaints the UPCl MD has been facing,” he said.

Jugran further said that the State Government has been dithering on replacing Yadav with a new face, the objective being to keep him in the post till the Assembly election.

Citing how things were going on in UPCl, the BJP leader said that UPCl director UC Dhyani had secured llB degree from Rohilkhand University in Bareilly as a regular student while executing his duty in the department at Srinagar.

“We wonder how he could have executed duty while attending classes around 230 kilometres away from his office. He had not sought leave application. No inquiry has followed. This despite the fact that during the President’s Rule, the Governor had asked for a thorough probe into his appointment through the crime branch. However, the CM after he resumed charge chose to ignore the Governor’s instruction. The State Government appointed him for the post, saying that his appointment would be cancelled if he is found guilty in the inquiry conducted by State administration,” he said, adding that as per evidences, Dhyani had secured llB degree illegally from the aforesaid university.

Jugran demanded the State Government to dismiss both the officials immediately and constitute inquiries into the malpractices they had allegedly indulged in.
