Uttarakhand Power Contractual Employees’ Union vice-president Vinod Kavi said on Tuesday that the UPNl contractual employees have been working for the last ten years in three different power corporations in the State without their salaries being increased over the past four years or any bonus being given to them. Besides, they are not being given dearness allowances, he said. In the era of dearness, the economic condition of contractual employees is pitiable, he said.
According to Kavi, while the Government regular employees are being given dearness allowances every six months things have remained out of bounds for the contractual employees.
While meeting with their members, the State administration officers normally cited financial constraints to keep things on hold, he said.
According to him, UPNl is violating labour laws while no action has been taken against UPNl officials. Several meetings were held with the corporation officers but nothing concrete came out regarding redressal of their grievances. The State government talks about increasing Rs100 per day or Rs5,000 per month for the employees recruited through UPNl but nothing has happened so far.
They alleged that the State Government has been playing with the emotion of the employees. UPNl contractual employees should be given at least Rs15, 000 per month, he demanded.
