As part of the high court ordered anti-encroachment drive in Dehradun, 125 encroachments were marked of which 61 were demolished on Friday. With this, a total of 6181 encroachments have been marked with 3256 being demolished and 108 buildings have been sealed for violation of regulations in the provisional state capital.

The additional chief secretary Om Prakash said that encroachments made within the boundaries of the municipal corporation will be removed at any cost. Irrespective of the influence wielded by the encroacher, no leniency will be shown towards the encroachment, he averred. The additional chief secretary also appealed that in case some one has encroached on Government land by mistake due to ignorance, the person should voluntarily remove the same. He also warned that first information report will be lodged against those who indulge in repeated encroachment. As per the court orders, the action to remove encroachments from public roads will continue without respite, he added.

The anti-encroachment task force head and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) vice chairman Ashish Kumar Srivastav informed that about 65 per cent of the encroachments had been removed so far from the main roads of Dehradun city. The process of erecting pillars on places freed from encroachment is also underway.
