In protest against alleged irregularities in the Doon University, the students belonging to the Students Federation of India (SFI) burned the effigy of the Vice-Chancellor in the university campus on Monday.

The vice-president of the State unit of the SFI, Vipin Joshi, said a large number of teaching posts are vacant in the university due to which the students are suffering. He said that the university has nine sanctioned posts of professors and out of them eight are vacant. Joshi said that as many as 35 teaching posts in the university are vacant but the university is appointing inexperienced teachers on contract on these posts, harming the cause of the students in the process.

He said that the university was established to prevent migration of students from the state for education but the fee structure of the university is so high that most of the students of the state cannot afford to study here.

The SFI also demanded that an independent probe should be ordered in the appointments which are made till date.

The students are of the opinion that the university should offer scholarships to the students in Ph.D courses so that an environment for good research work is created in the State.

The SFI leaders threatened that a massive agitation would be launched if their demands are not accepted.
