In support of their various demands the university and college teachers observed black day on Tuesday. These teachers assembled at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya auditorium in DAV College and protested against the Government policies.

Under the banner of Garhwal University and College Teachers Association (GRUTA) these teachers blasted the union Government’s policies and termed them against the higher education set up of the country.

The general Secretary of the GRUTA, Devendra Tyagi said that the Union Government should extend 100 per cent grant to the States for implementation of the provisions of the VII pay commission.

He demanded that the recommendations of the Chauhan committee report should be made public to remove confusion. The speakers on the occasion demanded regularising the ad- hoc and temporary teachers working in the colleges and universities. They also demanded appointment of regular teachers on all the vacant teaching posts.

The other demands of the teachers are abolishing the new pension scheme and grant of the old pension scheme to new employees, removal of disparities of the VI pay commission, removal of the system of Academic Performance Indicators (API) for promotions and determination of service rules for the teachers working in the self financing courses.

The teachers were scheduled to stage a Dharna at parade ground on the day to express solidarity with the all India protests of the teachers, however heavy rains changed their plan and they assembled at DAV college auditorium.

The All India Federation of University and College Teachers Association (AIFUTCO) had given a call of the nationwide protest on non implementation of Chauhan Committee recommendation for VII pay commission for university and college teachers.

The Federation of Central University Teachers Association (FEDCUTA) and All India Federation of Retired College and University Teachers Organisation (AIFRCUTO) also participated in the agitation.
