No candidate has registered any complaint against any candidate with the election officer of DAV (PG) College on Sunday.
However, City Magistrate GC Gunwant has sought an explanation from the college administration for not acting against candidates who are using printed posters within and outside college campus violating the lyngdoh Committee recommendations. The election officer Dr Gopal Kshetri said that a total of 35 candidates filed their nominations in the two days of nominations for different posts of students’ union election in the college.
According to him, three candidates filed their nomination for the presidential position, three for general secretary’s post, four for vice president, four for joint secretary, three for treasurer, eight for university representative, seven for faculty representative, one each for girls’ representative, post graduation representative and faculty representative (girl).
He claimed that students’ union election in the college is being conducted by following lyngdoh committee recommendations. Posters installed by the candidates and their supporters in the college campus have been removed. “The college administration cannot stop the candidates or their supporters from putting up posters or banners outside college campus or elsewhere in the city,” he said.
Kshetri said that Dehradun city magistrate GC Gunwant has issued a notice regarding violation of lyngdoh Committee recommendations during
election. According to him, the college election office will answer the notice but as far as he is concerned as chief election officer, students’ union election in the college is being conducted as per the recommendations. The photocopy of recommendations has been distributed among the candidates and they have been strictly directed to follow these. “If candidates are caught violating recommendations during election, their candidature will be cancelled,” he added.
Kshetri further said that no candidate has registered any complaint against any candidate before election officer. Candidates can withdraw their nominations on Monday.
Gunwant said that as per lyngdoh Committee recommendations, no candidate should spend more than Rs 5,000 on election. Most of the candidates have put up printed posters inside and outside the college campus. Apart from this, during nominations, candidates had used drums and fireworks. The election expenditure might have exceeded the said amount. Under recommendation, only college election officer can take action against candidates.
