If everything goes as it is planned the electricity supply during Kanwar Mela would be sans interruption this time. The Urjaa Nigam has prepared to install diesel generator sets for the same. With the installation of the utility, the power supply can be instantly resumed if the supply snaps for any reason. These DG sets will be deployed for 15 days in the mela zone, it is learnt.
Kanwar Mela is set to begin on 20 July and as many as three crore pilgrims are expected to reach the holy city, the district officials say. The district administration has geared up for the same and directed the departmental officials for the necessary preparations.
Har Ki Pauri which is the centre of pilgrimage for lakhs of Kanwariyas should not face the power -cuts during the Kanwar mela, said executive engineer of Urjaa nigam V S Pawar while speaking to The Pioneer on Monday. He added that Urjaa Nigam has made full arrangements to ensure this. “With the estimated cost of Rs 2.5 lakhs, DG sets would be commissioned in the Har Ki Pauri area which will act as backups during power failure,” he said.
Pawar further said, “The street lights installed in Har Ki Pauri area shall be connected with these DG sets. The high mast lights, however, will not be covered with this. If the power -cut lasts longer the power would be got from Bhupatwala power house to keep the supply uninterrupted during the period.”
