Unification of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal factions fails

Efforts aimed at unification of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal factions appeared to have suffered a setback on Tuesday with head of a faction Kashi Singh Airy failing to attend the party meet called in Dehradun on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Airy has called a general conference of the party in Dehradun on May 16, which according to the faction headed by Trivendra Singh Panwar, will be considered the general conference of only one group and not of the party as a whole.

According to Manmohan lakhera, the media in charge of the faction headed by Panwar, the meeting of various party leaders for unification of factions had initially been called on May 12 in Dehradun. “Following Airy’s communication this meeting was postponed to Wednesday. However, he failed to attend this meeting. Airy has stated that under pressure from party workers he has called a general conference of the party on May 16 in Dehradun. Panwar had been made the coordinator of the general conference so any such meeting without his involvement would be considered only a meeting of one group of the party,” he said.

lakhera also informed that senior party leader Diwakar Bhatt had attended the meeting in Dehradun on Wednesday and had spoken on various issues. “Bhatt said that the position of the UKD had already weakened in the State. It is vital for various factions to deliberate and reach mutually acceptable conclusions jointly in order to achieve unification of the party.

He has also stressed that rather than focusing on organising a general conference, it is more important to ensure that the differences between leaders and factions are resolved,” added lakhera. Despite repeated attempts by this correspondent, Airy could not be contacted on the phone for his comments.
