Regarding the case of Udham Singh Nagar (Khatima) Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Richa Singh, having allegedly received an extortion call on her mobile from an unidentified person demanding `60, 000 on Tuesday, the local police are still stumbling in the dark about the identities of the offenders despite three days having passed.
Khatima Police Station officer Ajay Dhyani admitted that they are facing difficulties to crack the case with the mobile phone used by the offender being switched off. However, he blamed the media, saying that the offender had switched off his mobile after media highlighted the matter. He further said that police might have cracked the case had media kept it out of its glare.
However, he assured that several teams comprising personnel from Special Task Force (STF), Special Operation Group (SOG) and local police station have been formed and they are working hard to get to the bottom of the case.
It is learnt that a case under section 66A of IT Act was registered in the police station, Khatima after the SDM had reported the case. It is further learnt that the anonymous caller posing as a Government official posted in the Secretariat had threatened SDM Richa Singh that she must cough Rs 60, 000 or else she would be removed from the post she is holding now.
