The Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths have threatened to go to the court against what they claimed an improper decision of State Election Commission on their appointments. The Commission had refused to give clearance for the appointments of 1898 posts of primary teachers due to the model code of conduct. The general secretary of the BEd and TET qualified unemployed federation Amit Kashyap told The Pioneer that the decision of the Commission was unfortunate as job prospects of thousands of youths would be jeopardised by this decision. It is pertinent to mention that the March 31 is the last date on which the BEd qualified candidate can join as the primary teacher in the state. The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has given this deadline to the state government, after this date only Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) qualified candidates can become primary teachers. An agitated Kashyap asked if the Election Commission can give clearance to the proposal to increase the DA of Government employees then why the unemployed are deprived of the chance to get the job. He blamed the state government for poorly presenting their case before the election commission and said that the federation would go to the court to get the justice.
The Primary Education Director D S Kunwar told The Pioneer that the department has got the orders of the commission and the process would now start after the model code of conduct ends. The state government has send a proposal to the NCTE to extend the date of exempting the BEd/TET holders for two years, if NCTE does not gives its nod for the government’s proposal then thousands of such candidates would be deprived to become primary teachers in the government schools of the state.
