The unemployed yoga instructors have threatened to spoil the State Government’s plan to celebrate International Yoga Festival at Jageshwar. The members of the Qualified Yoga Unemployed Federation organised a meeting at Almora on Wednesday and decided unanimously to protest the festival. The unemployed yoga instructors are finding an opportunity to put forward their demand in front of galaxy of dignitaries, which are expected in the mega event. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi is also expected to participate in the festival.The State President of the federation, Rakesh Semwal said that State Government is not heeding to their demand of jobs in the proposed yoga facilities and the unemployed yoga instructors would register their strong protest this time.
He said that it is unfortunate that on one hand, the State Government is spending lavishly on the festival, the plight of yoga instructors is ignored. The federation members are annoyed that even though the State Government started yoga subject in the schools, it has not created a separate post for yoga teachers in the schools.
The federation claims that there are more than 22,000 unemployed youths, who either hold a degree or diploma in yoga. The federation is on path of long agitation on the issue.
