Intensifying their agitation, the members of the federation of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed candidates undertook a cleanliness drive in the premises of the State Education Directorate on Monday.
The federation is demanding that the education department should initiate the recruitment drive on thousands of vacant posts of primary teachers. The agitation of the federation entered the 49th day on Monday.
On Monday large number of B.Ed/ TET qualified youths converged at the directorate and undertook cleaning exercise in the campus. “We were forced to take up this step by the nonchalant attitude of the department which is not paying any heed to our demand,” said one of the agitators.
The President of the federation, Manveer Rawat said that thousands of youths across the state would be rendered not eligible for the post of primary teachers in the government schools of the State after March 31, 2016.
He said that 6200 posts of the primary teachers are lying vacant in the schools of the state but the State Government is yet start recruitment drive for these posts. The agitators argue that since the writ challenging the year wise merit based system of selection is withdrawn by the petitioner there is now no legal obstruction in the recruitment process.
The federation is also demanding that the State Government should bring amendment in the School teacher first appointment, promotion, transfer posting guidelines- 2014 and incorporate the year-wise merit based system of selection in it.
There are more than 25000 B.Ed/ TET qualified youths in the State waiting for the new recruitment drive as the two year reprieve provided to State by NCTE is ending on March 31, 2016.
The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) had given a two year relaxation to Uttarakhand on its plea that it does not have required number of Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified candidates and it should be allowed to recruit B.Ed. and TET qualified youths in the primary schools of the State.
Notably, it is pertinent to make a mention here that NCTE had made it mandatory that only DElEd qualified candidates are eligible and qualified to teach in the primary schools.
