The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed federation suspended its two month long agitation here on Wednesday on the assurance of state Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The federation was demanding increase in the number of recently advertised vacancies of the Primary teachers.

These agitating youths were demanding that they should be appointed as the primary teachers in the government schools as after March 31, they would not be eligible for the employment as primary teachers as per the new guideline of the NCTE. The education department has invited applications for 980 posts of primary teachers then it further added 918 more posts. The state cabinet also sent a proposal to NCTE requesting it to grant extension till March 31 2015, for appointing B.Ed. qualified youths in the primary schools.

These measures more or less assuaged the agitating federations of the B.Ed. and TET unemployed and they decided to suspend their agitation. The State president of the Federation Baldev Singh Bhandari told The Pioneer that the agitation is being suspended and if their demands are not accepted as per the assurance of the CM the federation would resume the agitations.
